Azimuth Thruster

The azimuth thrusters from Kalkman combine power, precision, and full steerability in one compact and robust design.
Each unit is fully engineered and manufactured in-house and is available as either an L-Drive or Z-Drive configuration.

In the L-Drive, the electric motor is mounted vertically on top of the thruster unit, resulting in an efficient, quiet, and space-saving installation.
The Z-Drive features a bevel gear transmission driven via a cardan shaft or flexible coupling by either a diesel engine or electric motor.
Both configurations provide 360° rotation, delivering full thrust in any direction and ensuring maximum manoeuvrability — ideal for tugs, workboats, patrol vessels, and DP-controlled (Dynamic Positioning) ships.

Control systems can be hydraulic or electric, with optional emergency steering.
All thrusters are fully prepared for DP integration, autonomous operation, and remote service, allowing performance and settings to be monitored or adjusted remotely.

The drives are suitable for diesel, hybrid, hydraulic, or fully electric systems, and can be optionally equipped with a nozzle for increased thrust or an integrated rudder for improved course stability.
